Twin Cities
Chapter

Welcome to the Twin Cities Chapter of Ten-Ten International. The Twin Cities is made up of Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota. In 1840, Pierre "Pig's Eye" Parrant led a wild group to an area between the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers to settle and named it Pig's Eye. The following year Father Lucien Galtier erected a log chapel to the patron saint, St Paul. The townspeople decided to rename the town.

Soldiers from Fort Snelling had built a sawmill and flour mill at nearby St Anthony Falls on the east bank of the Mississippi, forming the nucleus of a village called St Anthony. Soon a suspension bridge linked this village to a little community on the west bank, and the two merged to form the second sister city. It was called Minneapolis, a name combining "minne," an Indian word for water, with "polis," Greek for city. Minneapolis and St Paul are known as fraternal, rather than identical twins.
