To Many Forums?

Postby K4QHH » Wed Dec 31, 2008 3:11 am

I noticed that there seems to be 3 forums related to chapter information, Chapters, Chapter Nets and Chapter News.

It seems to be a waste of time having to either check 3 different forums or have to post to 3 different forums to
make sure that you are getting to all the people.

Is there a way to post to multiple forums at one time?

Is thre a way to get new notes posted to a specific forum fowarded to your e-mail ( not just a notification that there
was a new post)?

Also is there any way to get spell check to work on notes being typed in for posting (I am a terrible typer and rely on
spell check to make it look pesentable)?

If possible it might help to set a time limit on each topic. If there has been no posts for a period of time, that topic would be automatically deleted.

Hello Bob,

I think Mel is correct in splitting the information to different forums. They are not really meant to be that you post the same topic to all in order to get out to the members.

Chapters for instance is supposed to be information about the Chapter, not the last net check-ins. I belong to a couple of other BIG boards, concerning SQL, and Excel, and you have to even search to find the right forum. HI HI. That's not even to mention Experts Exchange, where you pretty much have to Google to find an answer within that one. WOW!!.

That being said, I regularly check the “View New Posts” which spans ALL the forums, and generally contains newest information, and the “View Active Topics”, which shows what members are discussing the most.

The spell check, and grammar, if needs be. Compose your message in your favorite editor, say MS Word or some such (as I am doing now), then just copy and paste it into the Post a Reply, and you’re all good to go. HI HI HI.

For the email whole new post I have no idea. That becomes suspiciously like the old mailing lists which most ISP’s are now frowning upon due to spam, hence the need for a board, and as in SCI’s case moved to Yahoo. I’m fairly sure that Yahoo will change that policy soon in the future, and SCI will need to also move towards board for information to be passed to members.

You can lay all this at the feet of SPAM. Internet service providers are reacting to the call from members to cut spam down, so all the rest of us that have valid information to pass pay the price. I reckon that’s the way of the world, “Cause, and Effect.”

Now I will admit I sometimes think some of my post’s belong in other forums, but so far have not been dinged for submitting to the incorrect one. Those large boards I mentioned above will hit you fast if you post a topic in the wrong forum. HI HI. Separation of information to make it easier for all to find what they are looking for.

As we all must, the internet is a changing beast, and I guess you roll with it, or you decide to entirely stop. I’ve been so tempted to do the second lately that it is not funny, but, guess I will hang on a bit longer, kinda like waiting on 10 meters to open? Dang it.

That’s my story (or diatribe, or novella? HI HI,) for 01/22
