Cypress Net for June 17th.

Postby KK3Q » Wed Jun 17, 2009 1:37 am

Due to a very severe thunderstorm system spread across the Central Florida area the Cypress Net did not take place tonight. Our apologies to all of the out of the area stations that may have waited around for us to start up. Our Net Control (KR4OW) had a complete loss of power at his QTH; an alternate Net Control (K4RRF) had severe lightning strikes around his QTH as well and one of our other Net Control stations (W5IHN) experienced simlar severe weather conditions.

If any of you have ever been in Central Florida during one of our famous storms then you already know why we are known as the Lightning Capital down this way. 10 meters has been open during our last 3 or 4 nets so we wanted to keep everyone informed about our absence.

Please stop by next week, 28.465 @ 00:00z Wednesday.

Update on the storm:

Local news reports over 10,000 lightning strikes during the storms, 10 houses with direct hits. One 2 story house was hit on the roof and set the attic on fire with flames reaching 20 feet in to the air.
