PSK Express Now Available

Postby n7yg » Wed Mar 04, 2009 1:30 am

PSK Express, my replacement for YGPSK is now available for download and testing. This is still alpha type software and will require a lot of testing. If you are squeamish about untested software, then do not download this.

You can download the setup file at ftp://64.119.46.186/pub/pskexpress_setup.exe

This file is about 3 MB and includes everything including all the hamlib support files. In the future I will release updates that include only those files changes and not the initial support files.

To run this software you will need to make sure you have the .NET support libraries installed on your machine. You can check that by looking at the Add/Remove programs in the control panel. If you need the files you can get the installation package from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en

Once you have installed this, run your updater to make sure you get the latest security updates. Once you are done, you should be updated to version 3.5 SP1. The minimum requirement to run this software is version 3.0. It WILL NOT run correctly on Version 2.0

This software, unlike YGPSK is multi-mode and will allow you to use PSK, RTTY or MFSK at various speeds. The basic look and feel is similar to YGPSK so if you are experienced with YGPSK, this should be a snap. The README file is a PDF file and can be accessed from the Help menu at any time.

The logging function is also different from YGPSK. I am using a free version of SQL Lite, a really neat and powerfully database that does not require you to install a database server such as MySQl or SQL Server. I’ve also included the SQLite administrator software in case you want to tinker with the databases that are created.

Give it a try and tell me what you think. This will be an ongoing development project in parallel with the development of the updated PropNET software. So things may be a little slow from time to time.

Thanks for the freeware, any chance the program will do keyboard CW ? What about all those other digital modes like Olivia, FH, ect... ?

What about just a bare bones version that does all modes without all the logging stuff. I just don't use the logger because my computer does windows, so I just run Win1010 and the PSK software at the same time. Multiple decode channels would be nice during a contest.

Anyway I have downloaded the software and will start using it for PSK31 ASAP. Thanks again.

The logging portion of the software is just a drop in the bucket in code, but you can export the log to ADIF and import it into Win1010. You can get multiple decode channels. Just right click in the waterfall on a signal and select 1 of 4 channels to assign that stream to. I may add more at a later date. You can also select a notch if you have an anoying signal that you want to supress. I'll have a look at hiding the log window.

PSK Express Update

Postby n7yg » Mon Apr 27, 2009 5:44 pm

I've just posted update 1.1.7.4. Cleaned up a few problems that I discovered while testing the software on the air. I've also added an option to export the log to ADIF based upon a date. This will make it easier to export logs for LOTW and EQSL.

The awards queries can now be save as CSV files for import into a standard spreadsheet. A lot more work is required in this area, but i will need imput form uses on how best to handle these.

I'm just getting back on the air after a period of inactivity. I have downloaded PSK Express and am using it. Thanks, Jeff!

I can't seem to figure out how to use the Auto CQ function. I see where I can configure the Auto CQ, but how do I start and stop it?

Click the blue button down in the lower right side of the screen. It will toggle yellow to let you know it's in auto CQ mode. It still has a few bugs, but I am working on it.

Hello - just down loaded PSK Express and playing with setup. Am curious on the log, whether that can be printed somehow or is the only way IS to import to 1010 or something like that?

There is not a method to physically print the log, although that option could be added. But, you do have the ability to export the log into ADIF format so you can import it into another logging system.

Hello - I am presently using the program and have a few more questions. The time in UTC is off by two hours. Is there some way to correct that? My WinPSK program grabs the right time. Should be +5 hours in the central region now. And was wondering whether there is some function which will clear the receive screen? The garbage mounts in there and be nice to clear every now and then. Thanks for help.

Jerry

The time problem has been corrected and clearing the log, RX window and TX window is also available. The current version is 1.1.8.10. Send me an email at n7yg@n7yg.com and I'll add you to my PSK Express email group
