When to QRT a Chapter

Postby N9AVY » Sat Mar 28, 2009 7:15 pm

It has recently come to my attention that, according to my source, both the City of Roses and Portland Bridges Chapters were QRTed by CM without notice.

It seems to me that many of these chapters go QRT due to CM/CH becoming a SK; which would be understable. However, I do think that perhaps the "right thing" might be to poll the membership and get a vote before destroying all records of a chapter. Perhaps there should be a "repository" for records of 10-10 chapters. This might make it easier to reactivate a chapter ; especially after a long dry spell on 10 meters such as we are presently going through.

All avenues should be explored before QRTing a chapter. Many have put a lot of work into updating their lists with some of these chapters and I can't begin to imagine the amount of disappointment someone would feel after having spent years working on a particular chapter only to have the CM/CH "pull the plug" on the chapter. Running a chapter is a committent which shouldn't be taken lightly.

My own chapter , S.N.I.T.T. which is presently inactive, will be reactivated once 10 meters returns to its old self again... at least that's the plan. Seeing any chapter go QRT is like seeing old friends in the SK list, but to QRT a chapter without fair notice to its participants is almost criminal.

Any differing opinions ?

i agree 100% jerry. it's a difficult task to resurect or start a new chapter once it is gone.
how many NEW chapters have you (or anyone) heard of being started in say the last 5 years? i can only come up with one (sw fl moonshiners)

i assumed that all chapter info was to be returned to the parent org if issues developed with the CM. its not that difficult to maintain records on a computer disc until someone steps forward to assume the CM role.

Margarita & Martini Chapter is new, less than 8 months for 10-10 status and had a net running since Dec 2005:

The Cypress Net is new, as of 2007 anyway. We are more or less the result of a chapter being taken QRT without telling the membership or the Chapter Manager. Some folks mistakenly assume we are an offshoot of the old Central Florida Cypress Net but we are not. We do pay homage to them by grandfathering CFCC members into our net but that is as far as it goes. We try not to duplicate anything they did in the past to keep from stepping on their heritage.

And you are right about the difficulties of starting a net chapter.
