The country of Southern Sudan is expected to declare its independence from Sudan on July 9, 2011. If Southern Sudan is to become the next new DXCC Country, they need to be recognized by the UN or get a prefix assigned by the ITU. The old ST0/S.Sudan prefix was deleted in August 1998 when ST/Sudan got credit for the area. Sudan has two call sign blocks that could be broken up for S. Sudan to use: SSN-STZ and 6TA-6UZ. The ITU does not have to reissue the ST0 prefix, they could use 6T0 or some other combination. Remember, the dates that you work them become important as the last ST0 credits ended the year of 1994 for DXCC. UN recognition will probably determine the new DXCC credit date when it happens later this year.

A waiting DX group will immediately put on this new DXCC entity for three weeks. Paul N6PSE #68859 is one of the co-leaders and Dave AH6HY #33750 who was on PJ5 St. Eustatius and Flo F5CWU #71812, will be the 10-10 members among the 18 operators. Web site at: http://www.dxfriends.com/SouthernSudan2011 .

Eric Hall K9GY #22330, will receive his Afghanistan T6 call sign within a few days. He has tested his antenna and is just waiting on the paper work. QSL via K9GY and logs will be uploaded to LoTW weekly.

All four of the new PJ entities: Curacao (PJ2), Bonaire (PJ4), St. Eustatius & Saba (PJ5), and Sint Maarten (PJ7), have all been accepted as new DXCC entities by 10-10.

The VP8ORK DXpedition to the South Orkney Islands, may have produced a new 10-10 country. There was ten meter contacts made as I heard their weak signal on CW.

Thanks to all that came by the 10-10 booth at Ham-Com in Plano,TX the second weekend in June. Our President Mel KD5DE #33513, Ray WD8JKV #20805, Bill W5WJH #75735 and myself renewed dues, sold antenna books for the scholarship fund and had 114 people sign our traveling 10-10 sign-in book. This was an ARRL Convention and Dave Sumner K1ZZ #4852 (Ex. VP and Secretary of ARRL) came by for a chat and signed the book, plus Don N1DG/VP8ORK #27629 and Randy N0TG/CY0 #12990 are in the book.

Countries Award: There were four applications this past quarter. Dan KZ3T #41015 got his 35 Countries, Bryan KC7OC #67668 upgraded to 80 Countries, Al N1API #25468 got his 160 Countries and myself Mike N5MT #24949 upgraded to 290 Countries which was checked by Mel KD5DE at Ham-Com. Please copy QSL cards instead of sending the originals to save postage.

Propagation: Propagation continues to get better and we have seen more sun spots in early June. Expect the daily solar flux to range from 88-128 this next quarter as solar cycle 24 continues to improve. NASA predicts the peak of this cycle to be in about two years in 2013.
On June 15th the solar flux was 99, the A index was 8 and K index 2. Expect the best conditions on July 6-9th, Aug 2-4th and 29-31st and Sept 25-28th. Over the next three months, for USA stations, expect a 15% chance of DX in the mornings to Europe or Africa and a 40% chance into South America or the Pacific in the late afternoon. To tell what DX paths are open, listen for the beacons from 28.175-28.300 (especially 28.200).
