TenX DX News June 9, 2010
Mike Davidson N5MT, #24949
The winter DX Season for the USA will start about October 2010. I do not expect the MUF to be high enough for us to have a daily opening into Europe and Asia, but conditions are getting better. We have yet to see the solar flux get above 90, but I hope by the beginning of 2011 we will get a weekly average flux of 90+ and maybe by spring 2011 we will begin to hear our friends in Europe. The 10-10 net on 28380 this week had a record number of check-ins of 52 stations, as I was one of the relay stations on June 2nd and worked nine new members with skip to Florida, California and Michigan for us in Texas.
ZS8M Marion Island. Pierre ZS1HF is the new radio operator on Marion Island. Pierre arrived in April for a one year tour of duty. The old Marion Island call sign was ZS8MI but Pierre will use ZS8M which does not have a 10-10 number as yet. The old club station was formed back in 1993 when a 10-10 membership was gotten for the then active ZS8MI call sign. Marion Island is the number three most wanted country for DXCC now!
YI9PSE Iraq. The big DXPedition to Iraq was April 2- 12th The 10-10 operators were Dave AH6HY #33750, David K3LP #13394 and Paul N6PSE #68859, of the thirteen expected to make the trip. They had a five station setup and a lot of antennas. Web site: www.yi9pse.com .
PJ6 Netherlands Antilles. Bob K4UEE #75256, Gregg W6IZT and George N4GRN #73941, were on the Island of Saba, from March 12-15th but they did not make any contacts on ten meters unfortunately. The purpose of this trip was to make plans and begin building a station for the anticipated political realignment in the Netherlands Antilles later this year. DXers are expecting that the Antilles will break-up into several new entities/countries when all the new independence issues are worked out. So look for a new one later in the year, but for now work them if you hear them as changes are coming.
Countries Award: Correction: I issued basic certificate #623 to Dan KZ3T #41015. There were no upgrades for new countries. Please send a copy of the QSL cards instead of the originals to save postage.

Propagation: Propagation continues to improve as the new Cycle 24 sun spots are starting to grow! We have seen a few weeks of sun spots in April as things improve. Expect the daily solar flux to range from 79-95 the next quarter as solar Cycle 24 is made official by NOAA.
On June 9th the solar flux was 72. The A index 5 and K index 1. No storms expected. Expect the best conditions on June 1-3rd & 27-30th, July 25-28th, August 22-26st and Sept. 19-21st. Over the next four months, for USA stations, expect a 10% chance of DX in the mornings to Asia, Europe or Africa and a 35% chance into South America or the Pacific in the PM. To tell what DX paths are open, listen for the beacons from 28.175-28.300 (especially 28.200).
