Tuesday 28.800 10-10 Net

Postby K4QHH » Tue Apr 14, 2009 8:08 pm

Had no checkins other than myself.

I had to operate from the mobile today since when I went to start transmitting today
my PS-125 power supply quit rather spectacularly.

I have opened it and a small bypass capacitor has left the building. I am in the process
of looking for a schematic or parts list to try to replace the cap. I still have more
disassembly to do to be able to trace out the circuit.

There is a hamfest this weekend in Morganton so hopefully will be able to find a backup
power supply.

Bob,
Your mobile sounded as good as your base normally does on the Gold City Net. The signal was a little weaker, but the Audio was excellent . You must have had it connected to the beam because I still heard you better on my dipole than the vertical. I suggest getting a Astron 35 Amp Analog Power supply. I have had this one for 20 years. I recently got a PS-125 Power supply with a Icom rig at a hamfest and ran into problems with it not letting my homebrew digital interface unkey the rig. Hooked the Astron back up and everything works fine. I think it had something to do with poor grounding, because if I plugged the AL-80A up into the AC outlet the PS-125 worked fine.
