Big problem with Thunderbird

Postby N1API » Fri Nov 28, 2008 12:22 am

I am having a big problem with Thunderbird, my mail program. I am unable to delete any messages or empty any trash. I have been getting messages lately that the folder is full and to empty the folder and compact the folders.

I have had up to 2000 messages in the trash folder. But in the past couple of weeks I have been getting messages that the folder is full, can't take any more messages and needs to be emptied and compacted. The "capacity" of the folder seems to have been getting smaller and smaller. Looking at the size of the messages in the different folders I am holding it is rather small. I thought that maybe I had a message maybe a spam someplace that was huge, but all messages are in the kilobyte range.

Now even though the folder is empty and all folders are compacted, I can't delete any messages. In fact when I "empty" the already empty folder it disappears from the visible list of folders. When I close Thunderbird and open it up the folder shows back up again, (sometime with 5 unread messages that don't show when I look at the folder). But still I can't delete messages from ANY folders, empty trash or compact the folders.

Thunderbird has always acted strange from time to time, I would get messages that a folder is being processed and mail can't be move to it, but after a second or so it could be processed. This has been more of an annoyance than a problem. One place this "bug" shows the most is when downloading mail. I would get this message that mail could not be moved to the "spam" folder that it was being processed, but I could move message there after a second or so.

I get a few hundred messages a day so not being able to delete messages or empty trash is going to be a real problem.

I scanned the folder with Norton and there are no virus'.

Any ideas?
