Summary of 2008-2009 Scholarship Foundation Year

Postby wa2suh » Sun Jun 28, 2009 2:51 pm

Here are some facts and figures comparing the most recent year to the year before:

2008-2009 (April 1-March 31) was a successful year for the Scholarship Foundation with total income of $9789, but we were down from the two previous years. 2007-2008 was the most successful year for the Scholarship Foundation, with total income of $13,048. Our goal has been to cover the four $1500 scholarships that we fund through donations. We exceeded our goal by over $3700. In 2006-2007, the Scholarship Foundation took in $12,492, and for 2005-2006 the figure was $9092.

In 2008-2009 we had 168 donors. In 2007-2008 we had 162 donors, compared with 141 donors in 2006-2007 and 192 in 2005-2006. In 2008-2009 we were helped by several large donations, including one of $3000, one anonymous donation of $1200, two donations of $500 and one of $300. In 2008-2009 we received one donation of $250 that was later matched by the employer. The figure for the previous year was $2,250. During 2008-2009 we received 4 donations in memory of members N0WY, N6EMI and W2BOC.

We should be hearing from F.A.R, soon about the most recent winners and bios will be printed in the Fall 10-10 News.

As always, any donation you can make will be appreciated. For $10 you get the 2009 pin. For a$15 donation you also get your choice of the 2008 or 2007 pin.

If you have any questions, let's hear them.

I believe that the ScholarShip Program is a very Nice thing for 10x10.However I have a question. Why do we never hear any of the folks that receive the Scholarships on the air??? In all the years I have been in 10x10 I have yet to ever hear any of them on the air! It would be nice to work at least one of them.

Hi Bob,
Nice talking to you recently. Very few of the winners over the years have been 10-10 members and many of them may not even work 10 meters. The Foundation for Amateur Radio is the organization that gives out the scholarships for many ham radio organizations and tries to fit the best qualified applicants to the more lucrative scholarships. It could be that a young ham who is a 10-10 member ends up winning a scholarship at a higher value from some other organization. We just don't know. When I write to the winners each year I always say that I hope to hear them on the air. This year I will send them the link to our website and make a stronger pitch for them to join us on 10 meters. By the way, Josh Long, W9HT, who won our scholarship several different years is a 10-10 member and is on my Committee. Hey, maybe you want to be on my Scholarship Committee.

Larry as for being on your Scholarship Committee that would result in you getting a lot of negative e-mail on that. You could lose a lot of friends as I am not on a lot of folks list.I had better pass on that one. The fact that I am Modator on a couple of forms did not set too well with some
